One Big Global Classroom: Celebrating the BOOKR SDG Heroes Challenge

BOOKRClass | 2025.05.08

At BOOKR Class, we believe that learning goes beyond the classroom walls. With the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as our compass, we launched the BOOKR SDG Heroes Challenge to inspire students and teachers around the world to take action, raise awareness, and build a more sustainable future together. And the results? Nothing short of inspiring.

Why do the UN Sustainable Development Goals matter in education?

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are more than just global targets – they’re a blueprint for building a better world by 2030. From quality education to clean water, climate action to gender equality, these 17 goals help students understand the real-world challenges their generation is facing.

united nations sustainable development goals no poverty quality education zero hunger good health and well-being gender equality clean water and sanitation affordable and clean energy decent work and economic growth industry, innovatin and infrasturture reducent inequality live below water climate action responsible consuption and production sustainable cities and communities life on land peace, justice and strong institutions partnerships for the goals

But more importantly, the SDGs empower young learners. When integrated into the curriculum, they spark critical thinking, empathy, and problem-solving. They shift the focus from memorizing facts to becoming active global citizens – exactly what education should be about.

“Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) equips students with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to act for a more sustainable future.”

Why we launched the SDG Heroes Challenge

We created the BOOKR SDG Heroes Challenge with one goal in mind:
To turn classrooms into catalysts for change.

Here’s what we set out to do:

  • Encourage active engagement with SDGs
We wanted students and teachers to go beyond theory and bring the goals to life through creative, hands-on projects.
  • Inspire a new generation of changemakers
By giving students a voice and a platform, we aimed to nurture their sense of responsibility and empowerment.
  • Build a global classroom
Through shared experiences, we hoped to connect learners from different backgrounds – and show that collaboration has no borders.

A global effort: from Jordan to Brazil

We received amazing entries from schools across the globe – from Jordan to Brazil, Hungary to Indonesia. Students created videos, presentations, and digital projects that blew us away with their creativity, compassion, and commitment.

Some highlights from the challenge:

  • Health and Wellbeing
Students tracked their physical and mental wellness with custom-made wellness trackers, promoting healthier daily habits.
  • Life Below Water
Learners explored the importance of clean oceans and created awareness campaigns to protect marine life.
  • Clean Energy
From solar-powered models to posters promoting energy efficiency, clean energy was a hot topic among entries.
  • Equality and Inclusion
Many students highlighted gender equality and disability inclusion, sparking powerful discussions in their schools.
  • Care Packages for Those in Need
Teams prepared and delivered care packages to those in need (rászorulóknak), showing empathy in action.

And the winners are…

After reviewing so many thoughtful, creative, and inspiring projects, we’re thrilled to announce the top entries of this year’s BOOKR SDG Heroes Challenge:

🥇 1st Place – Rosary School College (Teacher: Sana Amareen)
🥈 2nd Place – Colégio São Vicente de Paulo (Teacher: Fernanda BeNiero)
🥉 3rd Place – Okan School (Teacher: Nivi Özkan)

Congratulations to these incredible teams for their passion, teamwork, and dedication to the SDGs!

But truly, every submission made an impact. We’re grateful for the many amazing project works we received – each one a testament to the creativity and heart of classrooms around the world. Thank you for showing us that change begins with education, and that our global classroom is full of heroes.

What we learned from the challenge

The BOOKR SDG Heroes Challenge showed us that students want to get involved. They want to contribute, learn, and make a difference. All they need is the opportunity.

We also saw how teachers are the real superheroes – guiding, mentoring, and empowering their students every step of the way.

And most of all, we saw how education can unite us. Despite different countries, languages, and cultures, these young heroes reminded us of something important:
We’re all part of one big, global classroom.

Ready to bring the SDGs into your classroom?

You and your students can still be part of this global movement.
It’s never too late to start meaningful conversations, spark real-world action, and connect with other classrooms working toward the same goals.
